THE GREEN INNOVATION AWARDS
I’m a Chiropractor and I love what I do. I’m also very passionate about looking after the environment.
As a chiropractor my primary interest is promoting health and helping people to be the best versions of themselves.
I see the health of the body and the health of our environment as inextricably linked. If we do things that are healthy for us then they are, as a general rule, healthy for the environment too and vice versa.
In practice I like to view people not as a disease, pain or symptom but as a person. Part of this is getting to know my patients, understanding the stresses in their life, but also what they love and what lights them up.
I find through talking to my patients that lots of people, like me, are passionate about the environment and want to do something to help, but they often feel helpless and unsure of what they can do.
Naturally, we all want to feel that we are leaving a beautiful healthy planet to our children and grandchildren. That’s why I decided to found and sponsor the Green Innovation Awards Northern Rivers. The aim of the Awards being to encourage students to develop a passion for green innovation that they can carry throughout their lifetime.
Many of my patients have helped in putting the Awards together and enjoy being part of the big vision to not only get better ourselves, but also to help improve our community. The Awards came together in their first year through a lot of work from a few people and a little work from a lot of people.
There is no doubt that the way that we currently live has many features that are unsustainable and that there will be significant change in the next 20 years. This does not necessarily have to be seen as a problem, but an opportunity. It’s an opportunity to do something better in our homes, to be innovative in our businesses or as a leader to help lead people through a change that some people might find uncomfortable.
I have no doubt that we will see massive change in our lifetime and the greatest success will belong to those who are most adaptable and flexible to change and who are innovative in their thinking.
